DREAM Fund: Jingle Mingle Coming

This past weekend we took our household - currently consisting of 3 adults and 4 children - to attend the DREAM Fund Chili and Rib Cook Off. The event was small but interestingly enough our whole crew had a blast.
DREAM - which stands for Dedicating Resources to Employees of Advertising and Media - is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to supporting the community of advertising, public relations and media professionals across the Southwest. They provide assistance to colleagues in media – throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and Louisiana – by providing financial assistance and emotional support during times of personal crisis.
Since 1991, DREAM Fund has gifted over $1,500,000 to individuals facing illness, medical emergencies and other unexpected hardship. The Chili and Rib Cook Off is a fundraiser to help establish the fund so that the financial support is there when it is needed.
All of the adults had a great time going from booth to booth trying out the food and complimentary drinks provided by each of the organizations represented. The kids on the other hand thought it was great fun to get balloon animals, incredibly detailed face paint and run through the bounce house obstacle course over and over again.

It was a lot of fun and on top of it we were supporting a good cause. The DREAM Fund is set up to help those in media who are suffering personal hardships.

They have another event coming up - Jingle Mingle. Jingle Mingle is one of the biggest holiday parties in town. Ten different media, advertising and creative organizations have partnered together to make this the most fun you'll have at any party this Christmas. The party will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 at Gilley's Dallas.

You'll socialize with over 600 marketing, advertising, media, and communications professionals and enjoy Texas beers and wines, a delicious  appetizer buffet, great music, and fun activities such as caricatures and a green screen for photo ops.

Buy a ticket before December 6 and you'll be able to attend for $45. Then regular price tickets are on sale until December 9 for $50.

Forget? That's alright too, you can buy a late ticket up until the day of the event for $75. Or you can always make a donation to DREAM to help someone in need and spend the evening with friends and family!

Extravagantly . . . A Personal Post

There haven't been many personal posts from me in quite some time. I find I can't schedule them; I simply have to wait until it comes pouring from my emotions through my brain and into my fingertips.

Apparently today, I have something to say.

I've been reading a really challenging book with an unusual title. Brace yourself - it'sGod and Boobs by Angie Schuller-Wyatt. Yep, Schuller, as in Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral. It's written by his granddaughter. I was a little wary when I received a copy to review. Honestly I was afraid it was going to be irreverent at best and unbiblical at worst. But I haven't found that to be true. In fact, I've been very surprised to find it challenging and encouraging of me as a believer and as a woman - fully and completely, a woman.

One of the things that it mentioned is how often we misinterpret the verse "Guard your heart for out of it are all the issues of life." Growing up this verse was used regularly …

I Cried the First Time I Watched My Son Wrestle

My middle son, Colt, told me not too long ago that he wanted to wrestle. We are a sports family, but wrestling has never been one of those sports. AND this child is on the spectrum . . . now, all that really means for him is that he's not going to pick up on any social hints you drop, he's incredibly literal, and he's finicky about sensations. Yes, the child who is finicky about sensations told me he wanted to wrestle - where people are constantly touching you and holding you down and forcing your body into positions you don't want it to be in. But I have always determined that I would not hold my children back by forcing artificial boundaries on them that they don't have for themselves - so if the boy wanted to wrestle, we were going to let him try it out.

A couple of weekends ago, we went to his first wrestling tournament. I was so naive. We were supposed to be there at 9 am, and, in all seriousness, I made plans for 11 am. I thought we would walk in, he would h…

AMAZING Disney Fish Extender Gift Ideas

Being new to the Disney traveler's world meant being new to the FE world . . . and as we researched how we were going to participate in the FE that is a part of our cruise, we came across a lot of good FE ideas so I thought I would share them.

Disney Earrings - there are all kinds and many of them are one-of-a-kind but these are a novelty that I know I would love to get as an FE from someone else

Vintage Mickey Mouse Earrings - $3.99 MindieMay
Disney Character Clothes Pins - These would work well to close bags that hold other FE gifts or you could put a magnet on the back of each one and everyone could use them as note holders on the walls of their stateroom. Super cute - this vendor does a really good job with them.

Wave Phone Holders - If you need more information on what these are, you can see my previous post Top 5 Disney Necessities. Basically these are simple holders for a phone that Disney provides which is a cross between a cell p…
