Guiltless Treats

Losing weight is fun when your clothes are too big and people are complimenting you . . . it’s not so fun when you are trying to get down protein shakes or everyone else is treating themselves to ice cream or cookies and you can’t have them.

My latest solution . . . Smoothie King! My family loves ice cream and several times in recent months we’ve used vouchers for Coffee’n’Cream in the Villages at Allen. My mom – ever the healthy one – always walks across to Yogilicious Frozen Yogurt to get a bit healthier treat.  On average, the yogurt has about 22 calories an ounce, 5 g of carbohydrates and 1 g of protein. Much better than ice cream, but still high for what I’m supposed to be eating. I eat several different smoothies but even the one that’s the least healthy, ordered “skinny” has 16.9 calories an ounce and 4.2 g of carbohydrates.

If you are willing to go for more protein and less fruit, you can have the Gladiator for 9 calories, .05 carbohydrates and a little more than 2 g of protein per ounce!! I haven’t tasted that one yet, but I have had the High Protein smoothies that come in several flavors, and they have 18.6 calories, 2.2 g of carbohydrates and 1.3 g of protein in every ounce. The nice part is I can take these as a replacement for my gross protein shakes every once in a while and not feel guilty.

No matter where you live you can take advantage of Smoothie King’s smoothies . . . and if you’re local, I would encourage you to stop in at the Smoothie King located in the Villages at Allen between Coffee’n’Cream and Freebirds. They’re great and if you’re not sure what to order, they’re more than able and willing to help you figure it out!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to finish my smoothie . . .

Extravagantly . . . A Personal Post

There haven't been many personal posts from me in quite some time. I find I can't schedule them; I simply have to wait until it comes pouring from my emotions through my brain and into my fingertips.

Apparently today, I have something to say.

I've been reading a really challenging book with an unusual title. Brace yourself - it'sGod and Boobs by Angie Schuller-Wyatt. Yep, Schuller, as in Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral. It's written by his granddaughter. I was a little wary when I received a copy to review. Honestly I was afraid it was going to be irreverent at best and unbiblical at worst. But I haven't found that to be true. In fact, I've been very surprised to find it challenging and encouraging of me as a believer and as a woman - fully and completely, a woman.

One of the things that it mentioned is how often we misinterpret the verse "Guard your heart for out of it are all the issues of life." Growing up this verse was used regularly …

I Cried the First Time I Watched My Son Wrestle

My middle son, Colt, told me not too long ago that he wanted to wrestle. We are a sports family, but wrestling has never been one of those sports. AND this child is on the spectrum . . . now, all that really means for him is that he's not going to pick up on any social hints you drop, he's incredibly literal, and he's finicky about sensations. Yes, the child who is finicky about sensations told me he wanted to wrestle - where people are constantly touching you and holding you down and forcing your body into positions you don't want it to be in. But I have always determined that I would not hold my children back by forcing artificial boundaries on them that they don't have for themselves - so if the boy wanted to wrestle, we were going to let him try it out.

A couple of weekends ago, we went to his first wrestling tournament. I was so naive. We were supposed to be there at 9 am, and, in all seriousness, I made plans for 11 am. I thought we would walk in, he would h…

AMAZING Disney Fish Extender Gift Ideas

Being new to the Disney traveler's world meant being new to the FE world . . . and as we researched how we were going to participate in the FE that is a part of our cruise, we came across a lot of good FE ideas so I thought I would share them.

Disney Earrings - there are all kinds and many of them are one-of-a-kind but these are a novelty that I know I would love to get as an FE from someone else

Vintage Mickey Mouse Earrings - $3.99 MindieMay
Disney Character Clothes Pins - These would work well to close bags that hold other FE gifts or you could put a magnet on the back of each one and everyone could use them as note holders on the walls of their stateroom. Super cute - this vendor does a really good job with them.

Wave Phone Holders - If you need more information on what these are, you can see my previous post Top 5 Disney Necessities. Basically these are simple holders for a phone that Disney provides which is a cross between a cell p…
