Money Maker: Character Lunchboxes at Kroger

Tonight I ran into Kroger just to grab some last minute necessities. In the front of the store, they had just marked down the back to school items to 75% off! I totally scored.

The best deal was two character lunch boxes – Shrek and Ironman2 (they also had Scooby and Spiderman . . . and some girlie ones). After the 75% discount, they were between $2.50 and $2.99 each, but inside is the Parents magazine offer that is a $4.96 money maker. It’s a free subscription to Parents magazine, but if you don’t want it you just write “REFUND” on the card and mail it in for a $4.96 rebate. (One per household.) So, I got two lunchboxes that ended up being a moneymaker of $2 - $2.50.

I also got scissors, hole punch and mini-stapler for under a dollar. And they had both Trapper Keepers and Zip Notebooks for $2.99 - $3.15. There was a $2 off coupon on the FiveStar Trapper Keepers but I don’t know if it has expired yet or not.

My goal as my kids enter school is to stock up on as many universal school supplies as I can during this time of year and hold onto them for the next school year. I already have a full drawer of stuff that they can use as soon as they’re old enough!
